Ain’t Slowing Down (‘Til the Kids Grow Up)
(Written by Jason Dyniewski to the tune of Ain’t Going Down by Garth Brooks)
verse 1
Five AM on any morning
Clock goes off, the house is snoring
Up to get her bagel going
Bacon’s sizzling, tea’s a-warming
Feed the dog and then lunch nuggets cooking in the oven
Writin’ out the sticky notes, each lunchbox needs some lovin’
Momma’s back at bed side praying for the day
Lord give me strength and help me think
To lead them on their way
verse 2
Six thirty the sun is rising
Time to stir each sleepy child
She knows they’ll be hesitating
But she knows that school’s awaiting
Grab a bite to eat
And then it’s get them in their school clothes
Tuck the shirts, zip the pants
Check for socks without the holes
With any luck they’ll leave the house
With some time left to spare
Nope nevermind, with no left time
She’s got to fix their hair
chorus
Ain’t slowing down ‘til the kids grow up
Ain’t givin’ in ‘til they get enough
Try to find some peace but she’s out of luck
Ain’t slowing down ‘til the kids grow up
verse 3
Eight to three it’s classroom leading
Peace and quiet’s what she’s needing
Four o’clock the school day’s ending
But the work is just beginning
Break to check the clock at five
Job well done, they’re still alive
Head into the evening hours
Homework, dinner and the showers…
chorus
Ain’t slowing down ‘til the kids grow up
Ain’t givin’ in ‘til they get enough
Try to find some peace but she’s out of luck
Ain’t slowing down ‘til the kids grow up
verse 4
Nine o’clock, the sun has set
There’s finally time to take a breath
The laundry’s folded, children fed
The checkbook might just balance yet
Tomorrow’s just around the bend
But first another chapter ends
Hey mom, the day’s flown by
Your magic worked again
chorus
Ain’t slowing down ‘til the kids grow up
Ain’t givin’ in ‘til they get enough
Try to find some peace but she’s out of luck
Ain’t slowing down ‘til the kids grow up
