An American Popcorn Tale

Written on October 16, 2022

It broke my heart last night as I was checking the children before bed. I heard faint singing from Caleb’s room which is odd because he’s normally watching YouTube.

Quietly peeking through his bedroom door I saw Caleb in an innocent moment between just he and the moon. And I heard an old familiar tune…

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishin' on the same bright popcorn star
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky

Caleb was singing to the midnight sky hoping there would be several voices singing back to him to achieve his popcorn dream. I didn’t realize how important the popcorn fundraiser has become.

It’s important for Caleb. It’s important for the entire MHS swim and dive team. And it’s important to let every swimmer know that dreams do come true - whether or not you are a mouse and no matter where you finish in the popcorn standings.

There’s still time between now and 9pm on Monday, October 17 to sing back to Caleb. You can be that voice of love across an animated nighttime sky above the bustle of cottages and villages. You don’t have to be an Avenger to tug at our collective popcorn heart strings.

Won’t you sing back to Caleb? You can do so by visiting his online link.

Purchase popcorn to support Caleb and MHS Swim and Dive

Let’s leave no tear unshed and no kernel un-popped by Monday night. Together, we can all be part of an American Popcorn Tale.

PS - It’s odd but as I closed the bedroom door last night I swear I heard our next door neighbor, David Culberson, singing back to Caleb…

Somewhere out there, if funds can see us through
Then we'll be together somewhere out there
Out where popcorn dreams come true
