Bammel co-ed softball back in action for Fall 2011

NCS BASEBALL FIELD - Following a lengthy co-ed softball lockout this summer, fans everywhere were rejoicing as the players returned to the field Monday night to start the fall 2011 season. Players, agents and owners were equally happy to have worked through a number of off-field issues --- including profit-sharing, corporate sponsorships, instrumental musical selections during the 7th inning stretch, etc --- and get back to playing ball. Thick humidity and high temperatures might have sapped enthusiasm from lesser crowds but the softball fans were out in number and added an air of electricity to the proceedings. A rejuvenated Bammel roster led the charge with an early-season win over a quality Spring Creek squad to start the fall campaign 1-0.
Scouts immediately noticed a youth movement in the Bammel lineup as several touted prospects made their debut in the Big Show. Robyn and Macy Archer patrolled the right side of the outfield while Taylor Rathbun continued his solid play following last September's call-up. Taylor flashed a bit of his glove work with a circus catch in the middle innings to go along with a 2-for-3 night at the plate. Bobby "Prime-Time" Stewart demonstrated his two-sport prowess by coming off the bench in the second half of the contest before heading to a late-evening soccer practice.
This eager crop of rookies was complimented well by a veteran core of talent that included both thunder and lightning. On the offensive side, Bammel put runs on the board behind the table-setting of Mandy Chan and the extra base pop of John Zavala, Dennis Huff and Jason Dyniewski. Meanwhile, the buzz in the ballpark was around the infield defensive reflexes of Caleb Davis and Cassie "Biggio" Miller. Forced to the disabled list last season following a leg injury, Cassie's rigorous offseason rehab showed as she exhibited excellent range which included a slight aggravation of her knee while making a diving throw to first base. The lineup depth was rounded out with the experienced presence of Chris Russo, Danielle Savaria and Russell Wiggins.
Following the game, skipper Jason Dyniewski was excited about the prospects for this season with a healthy roster of talent. "Last year we were scuffling to field a team for several weeks, but this year has started off well," the manager remarked. "The increased roster flexibility will allow us to move to a three or four man pitching rotation (Chris Russo, Dennis Huff, Russell Wiggins, myself) while providing me with ample opportunities to focus on more important tasks as a player/manager. Namely, betting on the games. Of course, 10% of all winnings will go directly to the collection plate," quipped Mr. Dyniewski with a wry post-game smile.
Sadly, the business of co-ed softball was evident as Hillary Wiese and Dr. Bob Stewart continued their preseason hold-outs. A source familiar with the contract talks indicated that Hillary expects to sign soon. However, negotiations with Dr. Bob have reached a temporary stalemate with reports being leaked that the good doctor is demanding better dental care in his re-worked contract. Given their importance to the team, the front office expects to reach mutual agreements in the coming weeks.
Special thanks are also in order to Amber Wiggins for graciously keeping the score book during a majority of the game!

Tickets are already on sale for Bammel's next game on Monday, Sept 19 at 8:00pm vs Champions church of Christ. The first ten fans to the park will receive a souvenir wooden bat autographed by Caleb Davis. Unfortunately, the bat will only hit foul balls directly behind home plate.
See you at the park!
