A Belated Bammel Softball Wrap-Up

Associated Press - Wire Feed

In keeping with the holiday season, I feel like a real turkey for delaying this final note on the Bammel co-ed softball 2015 season. I also apologize for the interrupted newspaper coverage during the season. I place the majority of the blame on my recent wisdom tooth removal and medication. Past that, I am out of good excuses.

Our final game was about three weeks ago (Nov 10) as Bammel finished in style with a 13–1 win over Champion Forest. Kevin Bone was a one-man fireworks show with 2 home-runs hit out of the Northland baseball field. [EDITOR’S NOTE: Kevin would add a third home-run as a fill-in for Spring Creek.]

In addition, Jason Dyniewski unfortunately delivered the final blow to the pitcher’s mound as he struck Dennis Huff with a sharp line drive. All told, this season was not kind to pitchers as Jason was struck three times while Kent Pope and Dennis each got hit once. And they say softball is not a contact sport.

I’d like to THANK everyone who contributed to the Bammel softball season this fall. Our regular roster numbers were a bit down from previous years, but we still had a core of about 8–9 players and just enough substitutes to take the field most weeks.

Please take a moment to congratulate the professional athletes among you when you see Austin Atwood, Kevin Bone, Cordan & CJ Ballard, Ashton & Lindsey Piechota, Dennis Huff, Kent Pope and Eric May on campus. In addition, guest appearances were made by Taylor & Carter Rhyne, Cassie Miller and our soulful slugger, Josh Kasinger.

Remember to approach the holidays like a base-runner heading for home — be safe. Until next year…

See you at the ballpark!
