BCGL Banter: Week 12 Recap
Filed on November 27, 2024
PLYMOUTH ROCK, USA - The time honored tradition of giving thanks is no stranger to our BCGL pilgrims and their quest to conquer the new Yahoo world. Journal snippets from these intrepid owners provide insight into what the early Thanksgiving feast must have meant for those with a seat at the table.
Braden: “Health and abundance shine down on me, but not thy Cowboys of the Dall”
Paul C: “Though my steps and stature may be small, my heart is full of gratitude”
Grady: “Four wins! Such bounty will carry my family through this winter of losses!”
Jason D: “My table is full of fruit from the Nix and Maye orchard!”
Kent: “The friendship with Chief Start-Em is paying off after years of drought”
Dennis: “Let us give thanks that kickers and defense are plentiful in Round 3”
Collin: “The Lord hath blessed my bench with high scoring players”
Caleb: “Yahoo! This potluck of camaraderie is far superior to any ESPN league”
Paul T: “Weeks 1-4 filled our bellies full as we weather weeks of tougher plowing”
Dustin: “Castleman said this season would be tough. He never learned how to farm.”
Brendan: “The crop of 200+ point weeks has blessed this homestead beyond measure”
Eric: “Prayer and a warm pint of winning have rekindled my once barren heart hearth”
This week reminds us that behind all the petty insults and put-downs there is a horn of plenty blessings that we pause and celebrate for the holiday. Those blessings may come in larger portion at the top of the league standings — but there is always a plate of leftovers no matter where your team finishes. And these reports are the dessert!
Here’s more of what happened in Week 12…
Mean Machine 200.40, Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 195.35
Mean Machine got back on track after a two week losing streak — just outlasting Paul & Glover in a tight week 12 contest. Strong QB play from Lamar Jackson and Jayden Daniels set the pace for Mean Machine as they look to solidify their position in the post-season. Paul & Glover find themselves with a two game losing streak but still time to make a playoff move.
Underdogs 212.90, Wall Street Journals 168.70
The Underdogs leave no doubt about the outcome when they score more than 210 points. Unfortunately, that’s only happened twice this season but last week was one of those highlights! QB Caleb Williams was the star of the show and a strong supporting cast helped Dennis play the very underdog role that he’s made famous over the years.
Pongo Pack 219.65, 2008 Lions 150.65
Pongo Pack has found the sledding to be much tougher this season after they surprised everyone with a 2023 championship. The Pack found a bit of last season’s magic this week and overwhelmed a Lions team that lives and dies by the health of the 49ers. Can Pongo Pack sneak back into the playoff picture? Right now, they are close — but on the outside looking in.
Poppers 227.50, Braden’s Bandits 144.75
Braden’s manager profile may claim that he is Kent’s mentor but those roles were reversed in the biggest blowout of Week 12. The Poppers posted their second best point total of the season while Braden’s Bandits performed like a Jerry Jones led team in their home stadium. The Poppers remain in playoff position while the Bandits fade away. Perhaps Braden could use a mentor too?
Uncle Rico 238.15, Grady’s Grunts 175.85
The Grunts have shown fight after a slow start but it’s hard for anyone to win the week when Tua plays like Dan Marino and Saquon Barkley runs for 255 yards. Uncle Rico outclassed both Grady’s Grunts and the rest of the league by posting the high score for Week 12. The victory keeps Uncle Rico firmly planted in 2nd place and on track for a first round playoff bye.
Da Bears 157.45, Losing INC 150.45
Da Bears celebrated Thanksgiving back in August — they just didn’t know it at the time. Left with little in the QB bin, Da Bears took flyers on Bo Nix and (later) Drake Maye. That duo, plus Nico Collins, provided just enough points to slip past Losing INC in a week where several NFL teams were on break. Even Mike Ditka would be proud of this gritty Bears squad!
