BCGL Banter: Week 6 Recap
Filed on October 16, 2024
SATURDAY MORNING, CARTOONS - It finally happened like a TV cartoon from the 1960s. Mild-mannered Shoeshine Boy rose to the occasion of fantasy rosters everywhere by donning his super-hero cape as the Underdogs soared over the competition with a Week 6 high score of 242.50 points.
Under no circumstances are we comparing Braden’s Bandits to a dastardly villain who puts innocent bystanders in distress. However, they must have known the week would not go their way as the points piled up on the scoreboard and Dennis Huff could be heard exclaiming, “There’s no need to fear! The [victorious] Underdogs are here!”
We’re certain this reference will go over the heads of our owners under 21 but let’s consider this a throwback to the oldies. And a nod to the VERY ancient past when the Underdogs franchise used to be good.
Here’s more of what happened in Week 6…
Wall Street Journals 167.10, Pongo Pack 166.05
Rumor has it that Pongo Pack is still tearing the furniture apart in a fruitless search for loose change to add to his final score last week. Losing by 1.05 points is a tough way to end the week and tumble into 10th place. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journals push their win streak to three games and remain firmly planted at the top of the league.
Underdogs 242.50, Braden’s Bandits 166.20
Braden’s Bandits should take consolation in the fact that they put up WAY more of a fight than their beloved Dallas Cowboys did at home. Unfortunately, they faced an Underdogs team that fired on all cylinders and delivered the biggest blowout of the weekend. There was plenty of fight in those dogs on this day!
Losing INC 199.25, Uncle Rico 137.20
Losing INC got the best of Uncle Rico in a battle of wits and double reverse psychology to start the week. Both teams downplayed their chances of victory by highlighting a shortage of productive players. Fortunately, the rest of Collin’s roster picked up the slack for a bye-week Travis Kelce (and whatever date night he planned with Taylor Swift).
2008 Lions 199.30, Poppers 188.0
In a Dyniewski brothers theme, Caleb narrowly outlasted the feisty Poppers by posting a nearly identical final score as Collin. On the back of a two game winning streak, Caleb may have to change his team name from the 2008 Lions. He’s roared his way back to a 3-3 record and climbed to 7th place in his inaugural BCGL season.
Mean Machine 190.40, Grady’s Grunts 178.0
Once again, the opponent — in this case, Mean Machine — won and Grady’s Grunts lost. We haven’t seen a musical track stuck on this level of repeat since Milli Vanilli was exposed for lip syncing in front of a live audience. One of these days the Grunts’ luck will change. Girl, you know it’s true!
Da Bears 183.30, Paul & Glover Phenomenal Team 114.10
Paul & Glover had the top scoring team on the season coming into Week 6 before the law of averages brought them back to Earth. Da Bears channeled their inner Mike Ditka and produced another lunch pail performance as they climb up the standings. But their rookie QB smoke and mirrors may eventually fizzle out!
