Camp-A-Lot

This parody was written in an afternoon's time while at summer camp one year. And it's actually an interesting story.

My younger brother, Justin, had just recently played the role of Lancelot in a high school performance of Camelot. As such, a few of the adult staff thought a parody along those lines would be just the thing for camp skit night.

I didn't take to the idea at first, but after constant prodding decided to see what we could do. So, Justin jotted down all the lyrics to the original Camelot, as they were still fresh in his brain. I then took them and came up with the words for Camp-A-Lot.

Justin and I then performed this at camp skit night — decked out as camp 'knights'. Needless to say, it went over well.

From Farmers Branch I heard your call

Camp-A-Lot! Camp-A-Lot!
And I've arrived, my bag and all

A week full of fun is what I have in store
But who said a thing 'bout the bees!

The camp counselors pretend like they're invincible
They sit in the shade while we campers slowly fade
They stand and they watch us run
All day long in the blazing sun
If that's their job then I would really like to trade

The staff's told us all we need to stay in bed at night
The curfew shall not be broke by anyone
We're told, "Don't you dare sneak out!"
Cuz they know what it's all about
Guys and girls wanting to talk "one-on-one"

The camp director, at times he seems invisible
There's points when we're not even sure he's really there
But Mike's really cool
With all the pesky rules
There's just one little thing we'd like to share

We're first to admit
The sun's ablaze in the sky

We campers who
Those fluids pass through

Says I

The cups of water seem to go fast
The swimming time is not long
And just when we can no longer last
The evening time comes along

We've beaten it into the ground

With t-shirts in hand
Young woman or man
Both slightly more tan
Awaiting next year's go around
