Lanyard Sensation (The Parody)

Heard “Good Vibrations” by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch on the ride home from work yesterday and it brought back great summer church camp memories. For several years, we always tried to come up with something special for skit night. This often resulted in parodies of some sort.

Below are the lyrics from our summer camp parody of Marky Mark’s song, Good Vibrations. Those that went to Webb Chapel summer camp remember craft-time with Judi Swayne and the immensely popular lanyards. I owe my lanyard skill to Judi and Darren Renfrow. Ah, good times!

Note the shout-outs in the lyrics to Judi Swayne and Paula Nichols. Reading this sure takes me back. Classic camp fun!

LANYARD SENSATION circa late 1990s
(Written by Jason Dyniewski to the tune of Good Vibrations by Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch)

Yeah
Can you weave it baby
I can too

Come on, weave it (4 times)

chorus
It’s such a good vibration
It’s such a lanyard sensation (2 times)

verse 1
Yo it’s about that time
To bring forth the keyrings and the line
I’m a gettin’ mine so get yours
You’ll never find this stuff in the stores
In the craft house is where we’re keepin’ it
Glow-in-the-dark string, we know you’re needin’ it
Colors of all various creation
Black, white, red, brown
Lanyard sensation

chorus

verse 2
Lanyard sensation’s like a madness
Many wanna know who’s done this
Mrs. Swayne — and she’s here to move you
Styles to groove you and she’s here to prove to you
That you can lanyard indoors or outside
And keep cuttin’ up more so come along for the ride
Helpin’ you learn the weave is her occupation
Come on, it’s lanyard sensation

Come on, come on
Weave it, weave it
Lanyard sensation

chorus

Here we go, break it down

verse 3
Nichols, comma P’s on the backup
She’s a watchin’ so don’t you cut up
No need to greed the supply
L-A-N-yard string won’t run dry
Lanyardin’s healthy
In skill you’ll be wealthy
And the crafty bunch helps me
To show you a weave with no documentation
You know, lanyard sensation

Yeah
Can you weave it baby
I can too

chorus

verse 4
Now the time has come for you to step up
Most crafts have you fed up
But yo we won’t let up
With the synthetic twine that’s designed to
Challenge your mind with your fingers entwined
Piece a cake, no bailout
Gotta be in it to spin it or hafta’ drop out
We believe that you’ll weave — you’ve got inclination
Don’t deny the lanyard sensation

piano solo

It’s such a good vibration
Come on, come on
It’s such a lanyard sensation
Weave it, weave it

chorus

piano out
