Popcorn Avengers…Assemble!

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS...
Back in January, I headed into a Monday night meeting from 7-8pm. That hour was the last hour of a weekend popcorn fundraiser for Caleb and his school swim team. I didn't think much of that last hour because we'd already done our duty and circulated the popcorn link among immediate family. Caleb had raised around $400-500 and was on the top 10 list for his swim team.
The last hour changed everything.
Upon looking at my phone as I left the meeting, I had nearly 100 text messages - from my wife, my neighbor and my family group chat. The popcorn fundraiser turned into a spirited competition that had taken on a life of its own. My immediate family began a high stakes game of popcorn bidding as they watched the totals for the last hour and continued to buy more popcorn to keep Caleb in first place. Our next door neighbors have two girls on the swim team and they ended the night in my driveway with Caleb on a Facetime call with the 2nd place seller lamenting that she didn't have anyone else to buy popcorn. What started as $400-500 had grown to nearly $1,400 and Caleb vaulted to the #1 popcorn seller for the swim team.
It was an unexpected end to the night but has been an entertaining story to re-tell in the months since. Caleb received a trophy at the end of swim season with his name engraved as the top seller for the 2021-2022 season and has enjoyed bragging rights from that fateful Monday night in January. That trophy will get passed on to this year's winner.
Which brings us to this weekend...
A CALL TO POPCORN ARMS
The swim team popcorn fundraiser runs this weekend from Oct 13-17. We buy popcorn through the Double Good organization and 50% of everything sold goes to the swim team. We've talked for months about what must be done for Caleb to defend his trophy and repeat as top seller. This is a call to popcorn arms for family and friends everywhere!
Your donation helps make real-life movie magic in two ways. First, it helps Caleb in his heroic quest as top seller. More importantly, it supports the Magnolia High School swim and dive team in a year where they lost their coach just before the season started due to family emergency. Together we can make this season something special for all the swimmers and divers!
Any amount helps and donations are open until 9pm on Monday, Oct 17. And the popcorn is really good. We ate plenty of it for the first few months of this year.
