She Doesn’t Hear It Enough

She hears it all too often. Like the steady beat of a metronome keeping time to each new stanza in the day.

Mom, can I…?

Mom, where’s the…?

Mom, where’s my…?

Mom, what’s for…?

Mom, I have a question.

Mom. Mom. Mom.

If you ask her, she will tell you that she cherishes every moment. She knows she is appreciated and will go any distance to make sure everyone’s needs are met.

But there is more she needs to hear.

She needs to hear that you love waking up with her to take on the challenges of a new day.

She needs to hear that you miss her when you leave the house. For work, play or all of the above.

She needs to hear that she is just as beautiful dressed for the ball as she is in her pajamas or sweats.

She needs to hear that no matter how old you get it will never be too old to hold her hand.

She needs to hear that you treasure every kiss from her lips and every smolder in her eyes.

She needs to hear that you admire her strength and determination.

She needs to hear how much you love her warmth.

She needs to hear that the most exciting part of your day is walking through the door to see her.

She needs to hear that you will forever be by her side — for better or for worse.

This Valentine’s Day will once again be filled with plenty of cards, candy and compliments. And when it ends, tomorrow starts 364 more days filled with all-too-familiar chords.

Mom. Mom. Mom.

Don’t stop with the candy and cards. Tell her how much she means to you daily. Tell her how beautiful and sexy she is. Tell her how lucky you are that she chose to spend her life with you. Tell her and tell her and tell her some more — even when you think it might be too much.

She doesn’t hear it enough.
